As the world moves deeper into the Information Technological
Age, System of communication in the global arena continues
to grow at a rapid rate. This has propelled contemporary
Mass Communication Studies to grow in importance in
the technological world today, side by side with the
Information Technology and Business Studies. Universities
around the World have begun to recognize the need
for interdisciplinary studies linking Mass Communication
with other established fields like Information Technology
and Business Studies.
The Diploma in Mass Communication
(DMC) course aims to provide students with the basic
foundation and knowledge in todays dynamic world
of Communication.
Course Syllabus
Diploma in Mass Communication
students will gain hands-on experience in video production.
Students also learn production for the print medium.
The Mass Communication studio is equipped with digital
Camera, Video-editing system (Adobe Premiere 5.1),
Studio-lightings. Students are trained in Page Maker
6.5 for producing print publications for journalism
modules.
The DMC course comprises the following modules:
Advertising
To provide students with a knowledge and understanding
of the practice of advertising within the media environment,
marketing concepts and strategies as well as the economic
and social justification of advertising.
Public Relation
This module aims to provide students with the fundamental
knowledge and understanding of the concept and the
techniques involved in Public Relations. Students
will also look at the broad range of activities which
public relations covers, the industries in which it
plays an important role and the main concern of the
image of an organisation.
Fundamentals of Marketing
This module provides students with a grasp of the
fundamental theories, principles and concept of marketing.
The ability to use contemporary examples to illustrate
awareness of the dynamic nature of the subject and
the basic knowledge and understanding of marketings
role in an organization.
Creative Writing for Print, Radio & Electronic
Media
The module aims to provide students with a basics
in the different forms of writing for the various
media: constructing crisp sentences for print, choosing
evocative words for the aural system of the radio,
sound bites for TV writing and also introduce students
to the concept of writing for online journalism.
Desktop Publishing & Editing
This module aims to familiarize students with the
basics of desktop publishing and editing, culminating
with the students being able to publish a simple newsletter
and edit a page of newsletter. It is hands-on module,
which allow students to learn the latest publishing
and editing software.
Multimedia
The module aims to provide students with a foundation
in the technology of multimedia. This is a hands on
module in which students will be taught how to use
the latest multimedia software.
Graduates from the TMC-CIE
Diplomas can proceed to the TMC-CIE Higher Diplomas.
Graduates of TMC-CIE Higher Diplomas can gain
Advanced Standing of up to 2 years from the following

Course Duration
There are 3 modes of study.
The normal duration of each mode of study is as follows:

qualified academic staff approved by the Singapore
Ministry of Education.
Course Fees
All fees stated are in Singapore dollars. GST is included.
University Registration and Examination Fees are not
included.
The course fees include LCCI
tuition fee and materials.
NCC Diploma holders will be given a rebate of $200.00
for each exempted DBAM module.
Entry Requirements
Any of the following:
1. At least 16 years of age and possess one of the
following
3 GCE 'O' level passes or its equivalent
3 LCCI Intermediate passes
National Trades Certificate (NTC) Grade 1, 2
2. At least 16 years
of age without any of the above qualifications. But
candidates must
sit and pass the psychometric test administered by
TMC
3. Mature applicants
21 years of age and above by the date of examination
