AIMS
In the Higher Diploma in Interactive Games Design programme, students will learn how to design and implement a working game using object-oriented programming language. Students will be taught the methods and algorithms employed to develop a game application. Application of appropriate programming techniques in the development of games and understanding of program flow and data structures in game development will also be covered.
The programme covers both the design and technical aspects in multimedia and animation. It provides students with a foundation in computer technology that is critical in today’s business world. It provides understanding in the concepts and applications of multimedia and animation. Students will also gain knowledge in the production of digital media with images, animation, sound and video. The game concepts, different game genre and platform will also be introduced.
Students will also develop knowledge and skills in 3D modelling, texture and surface mapping, lighting and camera effects and the effective integration of these in the creation of a 3D scene. In animation and gaming development, it is important to have a good understanding in character design which includes storyboarding and game strategy. Students will learn how to develop and enhance an interactive 3D animation and game environment and understand the practical concerns of 3D animation and games.
This course also provides students with an understanding of essential communication skills, professional ethics, team building and project management skills so as to perform effectively in the real business world.

DURATION & DELIVERY
Full Time : 12 to 18 Months
Part Time : 18 to 24 Months
The Higher Diploma is modular and delivered on a semester basis. Each semester lasts 10 weeks, with students taking 2 or 3 modules per semester. Classes are delivered on a lecture/tutorial basis.
Full-time students will have a minimum of 15 class contact hours per week evenly divided between lectures and tutorials/labs.
Part-time students will have 6 to 9 class contact hours per week. Students will have 2 evenings per week of classes plus a bi-weekly tutorial/seminar or lab session.

ASSESSMENT
8 of the 12 modules are assessed solely by coursework, however Fundamentals of Computer Systems, Multimedia Concepts and Production, and 3D Modelling and Effects are assessed by both coursework and examination.
The Higher Diploma may be awarded at PASS, CREDIT, DISTINCTION and HIGH DISTINCTION levels according to the following criteria, based upon the overall score.
PASS 40% to 59%
CREDIT 60% to 69%
DISTINCTION 70% to 79%
HIGH DISTINCTION 80% to 100%
Students must pass all units at the first attempt to be eligible for CREDIT, DISTINCTION and HIGH DISTINCTION awards.
Entry Requirements
Students must have one of the following qualifications:
- TMC Diploma in Animation and Gaming
- TMC Diploma in Information Technology
- GCE ‘A’ and ‘O’ Levels or other equivalent High School qualifications
- Non-IT Local Polytechnic Diploma
- Other equivalent qualifications
- Mature student entry, minimum age 21, with 2 years relevant experience.
