1. Introduction To Media And Media Technology
Introduction To Media
Students will be introduced to different ways of conceptualising
and thinking about the mass media and associated forms
of analysis. Students will gain an understanding of
the debates and problems that exist within media studies
in relation to the object of study. They will be introduced
to the main methodological approaches and will gain
practical experience utilising them in relation to
different elements of the media.
Media Technology
Students will be able to historicise the dominant
uses of film and broadcast technologies as institutionalised
and have a general understanding of the complex set
of factors influencing technological developments
in communication and entertainment media.
2. Screen, Documentary and Journalism
Writing for the Screen
This module aims to provide a practical introduction
to the different forms of writing for the screen.
It is designed to enable the students to develop their
own skills in screenwriting and provide a critical
awareness of the various forms of writing for film
and television. On completing this module, students
should be able to acquire an awareness of writing
skills in a variety of screen media.
Documentary
This module will provide an analysis of the documentary
form in film and television, taking into consideration
the historical and technological development of the
form, and its social, cultural and ideological meanings
at different historical moments.
Introduction to Journalism
Students will have a basic understanding of the role
of the Journalist, knowledge of newsroom operations
and a basic understanding of various theories of freedom,
censorship and objectivity.
1. Advertising, Public Relations and Web Production
Advertising
This Unit will look at visual images and written texts
that create meanings in advertisements. It will also
examine advertising in different media (billboards,
TV, Films Commercial) brands names and trademarks
and creativity in the industry.
Public Relations
This Unit introduces the theories and processes of
public relations. This introduction is set in historical,
economic, social, ethical and legal contexts. It will
also discuss the theoretical basic of public relations
in terms of how it helps in managing populations in
an age of rapid social change. Finally, the unit will
look at some of the skills and actual processes involved
in public relations that are crucial to the work of
all public practitioners.
Web Production
This Unit introduces and imparts knowledge on the
web. The development of the web and issues regarding
its content and direction (Branding and marketing)
Furthermore it imparts knowledge on the use of programs
viz. Photoshop and Dreamweaver, the two of the most
important software needed for design a website. Thereby,
the students are able to design and create their own
websites.
2. News Writing and Interviewing
Foundations of News Writing
This Unit provides a comprehensive and graded foundation
to the skills and disciplines of writing for print,
both in theory and practice. Workshop sessions are
held to develop expertise in various news-writing
styles. It examines leads, organising stories, story
development, quotes and contributions. It also provides
for various sources of news such as government, the
economy and industrial relations.
Introduction to Journalism-Interviewing
This Unit provides knowledge on the techniques of
interviewing. The basic skills of gathering information
by interview, distinction between interviews for different
types of media – Radio, TV and online; dealing
with and manufacturing.
3. Marketing Concepts
Introduction To Marketing
This module will give students an understanding of
marketing as a concept and also as a function of business,
and to introduce marketing strategy and methods in
theory and application. Students will understand marketing
as a business philosophy and a functional area of
management and to appreciate the tools available to
the marketers and their appropriate use.
Marketing Management
To develop the students' appreciation of the role
and value of marketing in a variety of organisation
types and the management of the marketing mix to achieve
objectives. To enable students to understand the nature
and sources of information used in marketing management.
Buyer Behaviour
Students will be introduced to the concepts of consumer
behaviour and to show the role of behavioural psychology
in marketing strategies and situations. On completion
of the course, students will be able to identify the
uses of buyer behaviour in a variety of marketing
situations.
4. Human And Economic Environment
Human Behaviour In The Work Place
Students will have an understanding of how people
can best be assessed, motivated, led and developed
at work and be able to make a basic assessment as
to why people behave in the way that they do. Students
will be able to debate the role of HRM in effective
organisation management and basic theories of motivation.
Economic Environment
Students will be able to analyse the economic environment
within which businesses operate and have an understanding
of international financial markets and their impact
upon individual enterprises.
ASEAN Economic Environment
This module presents an overall examination of the
business environment of ASEAN countries and the operations
of institutions and economic mechanisms of the ASEAN
countries. Upon completion of this module students
should be able to appreciate and analyse the problems
and the business opportunities faced by the ASEAN
countries with the rest of the world.
Media, Culture & Society
This module will help students to analyse the relationship
between the media, the cultural and the social. It
will focus on questions about power and meaning and
provide students with critical tools for the analysis
of media and cultural industries, texts and consumption.
Researching Media
This module aims to introduce students to the problems,
issues and methods involved in researching the media,
or researching topics suitable for media production.
At the end of this module, students should have developed
basic skills necessary to research media topics and
develop their capacity for independent organisation
and planning.
2. Global Culture & Scriptwriting
Global Culture
This module introduces students to the cultural implications
of globalisation, relating these to specific case
studies. On completion of this module, students will
be familiar with the major theoretical approaches
to globalisation, and be able to relate these to the
cultural realm. They will be able to apply theoretical
concepts to particular contexts.
Script Writing
This module helps to improve the basic understanding
of how film and television dramas are made. Student
will learn to identify who the main contributors are
and how they work together and how the production
process develops. Students will have experienced in
adapting existing literal material like short stories
and novels or film and television.
Graduates of TMC-CIE Higher
Diplomas can gain Advanced Standing of up to 2 years

Course Duration
There are 3 modes of study. The
normal duration of each mode of study is as follows:

Two examination sessions per year :

Ministry of Education.

Candidates must posses any of

CIE Diploma in Mass Communication (DMC)
CIE Diploma in Business Administration &
Marketing (DBAM)
2 GCEA Levels passes plus 3 GCE O
Levels
Non-Business Local Polytechnic Diploma.
2 LCCI Higher Level passes plus 3 LCCI Intermediate
Level passes.
Other equivalent qualifications.
