About the University

Deakin University has a good reputation for excellence in teaching and is ranked in the top band of Australian universities by the Australian Government's Committee for Quality Assurance in Higher Education. Deakin University has achieved a 'Five Star' Graduate Satisfaction Rating every year from 1994 to 1997 in the Graduate Careers Council of Australia survey of university graduates. Deakin University was also honored, in 1995, with the prestigious 'Australian University of the Year' award for its innovative use of information technology. Deakin University is committed to providing superior, student-centred education and was the first University to win the "Australian University of the Year" award twice in 1995 and 1999/2000.

The University has more than 30,000 students enrolled each year, of which a large number are “off-campus” and international students. It specialises in student-centred education and lifelong learning. Deakin University in Australia has five campuses across the State of Victoria. Deakin's five faculties-Arts, Business and Law, Education, Health and Behavioural Sciences, and Science and Technology -embody the University's commitment to excellence in teaching, research and consultancy. Within each faculty are schools which concentrate on specialist areas of study, delivering a range of on-campus and off-campus courses.

In 1993, Deakin University created Deakin Australia, a wholly owned subsidiary company, with a brief to tailor education and training to the needs of corporate clients. It works with a broad range of national and international corporations, professional associations and government agencies. Deakin Australia has grown to become Australia's leading provider of education and training for organisations, with more than 40000 people enrolled through partnerships and contracts at any one time.

Deakin Univesity is the largest provider of professional and management education in Australia. The university works in partnership with the government, major corporations and professional associations - such as IBM, Coca-Cola, Amatil, Coles Myer, General Motors-Holden, Ford, Qantas and CPA Australia - to deliver some of the most significant management programs in Australia and the region. Because of their close working relationship with the business and professional community, Deakin was awarded joint winner of the prestigious University of the Year by the Good Universities Guide for 1999/2000.
