Academic Board

In order to maintain academic integrity, adhere to strategic aims and uphold standards, TMC has set up structures to monitor and review academic processes and developments as well as to implement reform.

This includes an Academic Board and an Examination Board, plus standing and ad hoc committees tasked with curriculum design and development, library administration, course and assessment review, ISO maintenance and assessment appeal.

The Academic Board was established by the Board of Directors as the executive body within the TMC Academy with the authority to develop, establish and review the policies and procedures pertaining to the courses offered by the Academy. The role of the Board shall not be limited to overseeing existing courses but shall also include the development of new courses and other academic developments that will further the academic status of the Academy.

The Academic Board shall normally meet bimonthly.

coleman PROFESSOR GRAHAME COLEMAN

Professor Grahame Coleman was appointed as an External Member and the Chair of the TMC Academic Board on 1 January 2011. He is also the Chair of the TMC School of Psychology Advisory and Planning Board. He was the Head of the School of Psychology, Psychiatry & Psychological Medicine at Monash University from 2005 to 2008. He is currently serving on the Academic Board at Monash University and the Faculty Board for the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. He currently also has an adjunct professorial appointment at The Ohio State University. He had previously served as Associate Dean (Research) at Monash University and had also served as Head of Psychology, and Head of Heath Sciences (Bendigo) at La Trobe University. He has published one book, numerous book chapters, over 120 refereed scientific journal papers and has authored over 100 conference papers.

Prof Hui ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR HUI WENG TAT

Hui Weng Tat is an Associate Professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKY School) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He specializes in the impact of globalisation on labour markets, economic issues of migration, education, ageing and retirement, and labour market policies in Singapore. He has also taught in the Department of Economics at NUS before joining the LKY School in 2004. He has published in international labour and public economics journals, and co-edited and contributed to the book Singapore Economy in the 21st Century: Issues and Strategies (McGraw Hill). He has acted as a consultant to the Ministry of Manpower, the International Labour Organization, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and was the Associate Research Fellow of the then Singapore Institute of Labour Studies from 1991-1994. He also served as a resource person to the National Wages Council and was a member of the Economic Review Sub-Committee Workgroup on Wages, the Institute of Policy Studies Economic Restructuring Working Group, the Economic Strategies Committee Workgroup on Workforce Skills and Low Wage Workers and REACH’s Policy Study Workgroup on Manpower Issues. He has held various administrative appointments which include Deputy Director of the Public Policy Programme (1997 - 1998), Deputy and Acting Head of the Department of Economics (1998 - 2000), Vice Dean (Research & Graduate Studies) of the NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (2000 - 2003) and Vice Dean (Academic Affairs) of the LKY School (2004 - 2008). At the LKY School, he teaches graduate courses on Economics and Public Policy, Public Policy Research and Evaluation, and Labour Market Policy Issues.

drchin DR CHIN KON YUEN (Honorary)

Dr Chin, one of the founders of TMC Education Corporation Ltd, has played a pivotal role in planning and charting the development of the Group since its inception in 1981. Presently serving as the Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, he is instrumental in putting forth and implementing the Group’s policies on business growth and engaging in high level collaboration with potential business partners on matters of business development, franchising and overseas expansion. Dr Chin completed his tertiary education in Marketing from the Institute of Marketing, UK, and attained his tertiary qualification in Management Studies which was jointly awarded by the University of Chicago, US, and Singapore National Productivity Board. In 1994, he was conferred an honorary degree of Doctor of Technology by Staffordshire University, UK, for his contribution in creating education opportunities for young people in Singapore to gain professional computing qualifications from Diploma level to Master Degree. Dr Chin is also the President of Singapore Education International (SEI), an association formed by private education providers, with the support of IE Singapore, to promote the Singapore education brand overseas.

KashmirSingh MR KASHMIR SINGH

Mr Singh joined TMC in 2007 as a Senior Lecturer in its Business School. He is responsible for teaching Accounting & Finance subjects for the proprietary and Degree programmes. Prior to joining TMC, Mr. Singh has over 30 years of teaching / supervision experience having worked for three other private education institutions in different roles including teaching, setting up an Accounting Faculty for one and helping to run the operations for the other two. Mr. Singh has also carried out in-house training on topics such as understanding and interpreting of financial statement for non-accounting managers. Before that, Mr. Singh has 8 years of experience in the accounting field as a head of the Accounting Department in an International Company, handling a full set of accounts. Mr. Singh graduated with a MBA from Clayton University (USA) in 1999.

Gordon DR GORDON WALKER

Dr. Gordon Walker is the Dean of the School of Psychology at TMC Academy. Before joining TMC in 2010, he held the position of Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology and Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. His duties included co-ordination and teaching of the Postgraduate Diploma of Psychology, a fourth year in psychology for graduates; this program was also delivered in Singapore through TMC Academy from 2002 - 2010. Prior to being appointed to Monash University, Dr. Walker worked as an educational and development psychologist in schools, predominantly in Melbourne, but also in England and Papua New Guinea. He has been involved in programs for the training of both teachers and psychologists. Dr. Walker is a Fellow of the Australian Psychological Society and a member of both the College of Educational and Developmental Psychologists and the College of Counselling Psychologists of the Australian Psychological Society. He is also an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and a Chartered Psychologist (UK). Dr Walker holds a Doctor of Philosophy from La Trobe University, Australia. He also possesses a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Education both from the University of Melbourne.

Eugene MR EUGENE CHOE BOON KIM

Mr. Eugene Choe Boon Kim obtained his Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computing Science from Staffordshire University (UK) in 1991. Prior to that, he was an Analyst Programmer designing, developing and maintaining application systems; and providing user support. Upon graduation, he joined TMC in 1992 as a Lecturer. His job scope included both teaching and administrative responsibilities. After nine years with TMC, he joined another private education institution in Singapore as a Product Manager to source, evaluate and develop new education programmes. This included communicating and discussing operational procedures with potential new university partners. Since his return to TMC in 2003, he has been involved in developing, administering and evaluating education programmes in the School of IT. Mr Choe is currently its Acting Dean and his main responsibilities include designing and planning course outlines, structure, teaching materials, assessments and lesson delivery.

AlanDavis MR RONALD ALAN DAVIS

Mr. Ronald Alan Davis joined TMC Hawthorn English Language Centre in 2009 as its Director of Studies / Centre Manager. He is presently responsible for all operations connected with Hawthorn Language School. Mr Davis has over 17 years of experience in the field of English Education including online education, curriculum design, teacher training, consulting, assessment design and administration, and project design, implementation and management. Mr Davis has worked in six different countries including Australia, China, Taiwan and Thailand as well as his home country, the United States. His last appointment was in the United Arab Emirates where he played a key role in the development, implementation and maintenance of a nationwide teacher training programme sponsored by the Ministry of Higher Education. Mr Davis has an undergraduate degree in Anthropology from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. He also has a Masters in TESOL from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Ms Yeow Cheng Khim MS YEOW CHENG KHIM

Ms Yeow Cheng Khim, the Executive Director cum Director of the Academic Division, Registrar and Interim Academic Director, has served the Company since 1984. Ms Yeow’s present roles include being overall in-charge of the daily operations of the Group in particular those of the Academic Division. She is instrumental in negotiating with international educators and university partners at the highest level on academic matters, and successfully brought in many bachelor and master degree programmes from various renowned Australian as well as UK universities. In addition, Ms Yeow is actively involved in regular validation audits conducted by university partners and professional bodies as well as quality certification bodies. One of her significant contributions to TMC’s quality journey was her role in strategizing a systematic approach towards attaining the prestigious EduTrust Certification and, organizing and guiding the staff in preparing the final documentation for submission to the Council for Private Education (CPE). Ms Yeow has accumulated more than 25 years of experience in managing various schools under TMC Academy. She has taught as Course Director and Senior Lecturer, and has good knowledge of the education systems in Singapore, Australia and UK. Prior to joining TMC, Ms Yeow was an Accountant cum Administration Manager with a UK MNC, and a Management Accountant with a public listed manufacturing company. Ms Yeow received her Bachelor of Accountancy Degree from the University of Singapore and holds a Master of Science Degree (Business Systems Analysis and Design) from City University, UK. She is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Cost and Management Accountants, UK, and a Fellow of CPA Australia.
