Validated by: University of Cambridge International Examinations The aim of the Diploma in Business Administration and Marketing (DBAM) course is to provide students with the basic knowledge in business and marketing and also to provide students with the necessary foundation for undergraduate studies in business. This course also aims to help students meet career opportunities in the financial, manufacturing and commercial sectors. University of Cambridge International Examinations validate the programme, providing quality assurance for the course structure, content, assessment. The organisation moderates the setting and marking of all the coursework. The Diploma conisists of a total of 6 modules: Business Communication Business Communication is increasingly becoming an important aspect of a business organisation today. The need to communicate effectively has already become a necessity than a choice for almost any type of business. This module introduces students to the increasing need to improve communication in business. It explores the implications of effective communication has for business environment and is examined by a series questions related to business. This module enables students to improve their interpersonal communication skills such as oral and written communication. It also enables students to review and understand their own behaviour and performance, with a view to improve their future learning ability. It provides a good foundation for students to acknowledge their own strength and weakness in communication. Assessment: 100% (Coursework) Introduction to Management This module covers various characteristics of business and organisations, different types of business ownership and their structures, different environments affect the business. This module enables students to develop a basic understanding of the nature of business and organizations. The module aims to equip students with the fundamentals knowledge and skills required to be a manager. Assessment: 100% (Coursework) Fundamentals of Marketing This module deals with basic concepts of marketing and also introduces the students to marketing strategy and methods. This module stresses gaining the required marketing knowledge and skills that would form the foundation to build on advanced marketing-based units at higher level. It also provides scope for application of marketing strategy and methods through case discussion. This module enables students to improve their understanding of the basic marketing concepts. Developing an understanding of how marketing functions, the role of the marketing mix in marketing strategy, the impact of environmental factors and the need for market research will provide a strong foundation for both work and further studies. Assessment: 100% (Coursework) Introduction to Information Technology The purpose of this module is to develop the competency of the students in the use of the Microsoft Windows operating system and some common business software packages such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. Assessment: 100% (Coursework) Quantitative Skills This module covers basic quantitative techniques that can be applied in various business disciplines. The module focuses particularly on the field of economics. The module will enable students to analyze, interpret and utilize information for decision-making purpose. It provides the necessary foundation for students who wish pursue undergraduate studies in business. Knowledge of quantitative skills in business is necessary for persons to make informed decisions. Qualitative and quantitative information bombard us on a frequent basis. For example, companies often collect survey data to better understand their customers. A good interpretation of the data helps to maintain the companies’ competitive in the age of globalization. Correct interpretation and presentation of the data allows us to make intelligence statements. Articles in the newspapers often inform us about changes in policies and prices of goods and services. With the knowledge in Economics, one can easily analyse the reason(s) for the change and predict future change in prices in relation to the policy recommendation. Assessment: 100% (Examination) Principles of Accounting This module covers the basic accounting concepts and conventions, procedures and the appropriate systems used for recording the business transactions, how to prepare a final statements and cash budget and analyse a financial report. Having an understanding of the basics of accounting is a fundamental management skill. Anyone who has any interest in becoming a manager or even setting up their own business needs to have a working understanding of accounting. Assessment: 40%/60% (Coursework/Examination) |

Structure
Delivery
This programme is wholly delivered in Singapore. Students will have access to local lecturers and the on-line resources provided by TMC.
There will be a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, presentations and sessions in computer laboratories where appropriate. Students will also be given additional work to complete outside of scheduled classes.
Resources and materials provided for students will include lecture notes and references for further reading in books, professional journals, publication, articles and websites.
Assessment
Modules are assessed by means of examination and /or coursework.

Progression
Graduation Requirements
To achieve a pass grade in any module, students must achieve a minimum mark of 40% for their coursework, their examination or both their coursework and their examination (if there are 2 component in the assessment).
