Off-Campus and On-Campus Studies
Deakin Unviersity is one of the
most significant providers of distance education and
the largest publisher of educational materials in
Australia.
The Bachelor of Commerce draws on the University's
particular expertise in distance education and the
degree is offered by distance education as well as
in on-campus mode.
The off-campus studies program offers people the opportunity
to study at a distance, irrespective of where they
live or work. A substantial range and variety of study
materials has been developed to make this possible.
These may include course materials, readers, textbooks,
software and audio and videotapes prescribed for each
subject.
Students may consider the option of starting the course
on a part-time distance learning basis in Singapore,
and proceeding to on-campus study in Australia to
complete the course by full-time study.
Course Operation
The course operates over two semesters
each year:
- Semester 1 Commences in February/March
with examinations in the month of June
- Semester 2 Commences in July
with examinations during the month of November
Completion of the degree may be
accelerated by taking extra subjects over the summer
semester period, which commences in December with
examinations in February. There are intakes to the
course in semester 1, 2 and summer. Students may opt
to take the course over a longer period to suit their
career needs or other personal circumstances.
Course Tuition and Assessment
The course will be conducted using
distance education materials developed by Deakin to
guide students through their study program. A major
feature of this distance learning degree is the regular
study group meetings arranged by the course administrative
agent, TMC Academy for Advanced Education, which will
provide further support and guidance to the Singapore-based
students.
Students are required to submit written assignments
on a regular basis, which are assessed by Deakin's
academic staff and returned as soon as possible. At
the end of each semester, students will sit for the
same written examinations as those students attending
on -campus studies at Deakin.

The minimum entry requirement
to the course would normally be suitable GCE 'A' Level
Certificate, Diploma in Business Administration and
