Programme
Structure
Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU)
has a strong ranking in the Hospitality, Leisure,
Recreation, Sport and Tourism Group, consistently
in the top ten UK Tourism and Leisure courses in the
UK. The BA (Hons) Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality
from the Centre for Tourism, Consumer
and Food Studies is a 120 credit programme designed
to be available to students from TMC who have achieved
a pass in the Higher Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism
Management or have an equivalent Polytechnic Diploma.
This will be delivered through a summer semester.
Attendance is to be full time at LJMU for a period
of 14 weeks, including assessments. Prior to this
students will attend lectures and workshops (14 weeks)
at TMC Singapore on a full or part-time basis.
Students are required to complete
7 modules.
Block 1 (February – May) at
TMC Singapore, students complete 3 modules (60 credits):
• Building upon existing skills
and knowledge.
• Encouraging independent study in a specialism
related to your career aspirations.
• Drawing upon the expertise of staff at LJMU
in areas such as event management, sustainable tourism,
and urban tourism.
• Developing critical awareness of key issues
facing the industry.
• Developing a reflective approach to your personal
and professional development.
Assessment
Our assessment is planned to encourage you to develop
useful skills as well as to measure achievement; in
a way it is part of the teaching where you acquire
skills from the methods of assessment. There are varied
coursework assessments such as projects, reports,
case studies, essays and presentations. The emphasis
is not only on developing student’s knowledge
but also the practical and strategic aspects of Tourism,
Leisure and Hospitality.
We aim to provide a high quality teaching
and learning experience for students. Our modules
are designed to provide challenging and interesting
educational experiences for students that encourage
critical awareness and independent study. While at
LJMU students will not only meet with lecturers, they
will also hear from guest speakers from across the
industry to enhance their learning experience.
Graduating with an honours degree from LJMU will improve
your career prospects and create opportunities in
a range of sectors of the tourism, leisure and hospitality
industries. You will be eligible for graduate level
employment and graduate training programmes within
tour operators, hotel groups, travel agents, destination
marketing organisations, visitor attractions, airports
and airlines, the health and fitness sector, and the
retail sector. An honours degree also enables progression
to postgraduate study.
Students who have completed the BA (Hons) Tourism,
Leisure and Development degree have an opportunity
to join LJMU’s Masters programme at a discounted
fee, with a choice of a range of different Masters
including:
